I saw an opportunity to create a calming, nature inspired environment into the home.

How might I bring a sense of wellbeing into the home and encourage a lighter lifestyle?
Design Intent
The Wellscape Bed brings in aspects of the camping experience that encourages a lighter lifestyle and enhances your sleep. The bed has dimming lights, a design that encourages disconnection from technology and a more calming environment. This area of design is very timely because the more people separate themselves from the environment, the quicker finite resources will be over consumed. The goal is to bring lightness to the mindset, lifestyle and habits of the user through design.

Ideation
Concepts based on my research, new brief, and end goals while being inspired by the feeling of restfulness when camping. Exploring different places I could intervene in the home to create new habits.
Prototypes + Testing
My mockups are an assortment of full scale models, CAD models, 3D printed models, and quick cardboard or foam models. I also got to test my model in VR to really get a sense of being in the room with the bed frame.
CMF
The Wellscape Bed uses recycled felt that is also a sound absorber, light weight hemp fabric that is semi-translucent so it gives user a sense of protection while bringing natural light in, beech which has a lower carbon footprint, and recycled aluminum.
Packaging + Assembly
Spreading the message on impact, materials, and manufacturing. Easy to assemble and disassemble, uses minimal fixtures, and uses simple Japanese joinery.
