Design Objectives
Mood Board
Modern, Unique, Modular
Ideation
The interface of the blinds embraces origami folding techniques which allows it to expand and contract. The design is inspired by the Al Bahr Towers and the geometrically-designed wooden screens. Brainstorming the installation and connection of the Arduino to fit into the design and function correctly.
Prototyping
Tested with a variety of materials for the interface and mobility as the form opens and closes. Figured out different ways to make the design as modular, unobtrusive, and sleek as possible. Went through many iterations of mechanics, hardware, and coding to get movement and sensors correct.
Materials & Specs
These blinds are modular with suction cups connected to the casing behind the frame so the user is able to place however many of them in whichever way they prefer. The Origami Blinds are each connected to a servo motor which is coded by Arduino to open and close with the light source. The final product is made from wood, elastic, vinyl, and 3D printed parts all designed to be light weight and aesthetically pleasing.
